In Memory of Dr. Jim
1971 - 2023
"I’m so grateful to be in a position to help and serve others. My patients often comment that they can tell how much I love what I do. I’ve been blessed with the opportunities presented to me, and I don’t take that for granted.” ~Dr. Jim
After a lifetime of dedicating himself to people in need, Dr. Jim Pollard has succumbed to cancer and passed away on 26 February 2023. May his memory be blessed.
At age 16, Dr. Jim had a sports injury. Urgent care gave him pain meds that didn’t seem to help. As he sat out for practice, a friend mentioned an uncle who was a chiropractor. Dr. Jim went to the man’s home and was adjusted. That was the beginning. After completing his Doctorate of Chiropractic with magna cum laude he started Health Recovery of Texas.
In June 2021 Dr. Jim was diagnosed with skin cancer. He started radiation therapy yet was determined to keep showing up for work every morning, to be there for his patients, no matter how challenging the symptoms. In January of 2022 he had his first surgery and in March he was already back at work hoping he was on the road to recovery. In July 2022 new symptoms appeared and in October the doctors concluded that the cancer was back and had metastasized. Still, he resolved to continue seeing his patients through the treatment. In January 2023, when he felt that his health compromised the care that he was able to offer his patients, he made the heart-wrenching decision to close the practice and focus on his own recovery. Through the end, he was appreciative of the friends and patients who were there for him and was resolute to not fully disclose the extent of his suffering so as not to make it harder on others. His battle was graceful.
He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.
"Who is the man who delights in life, who desires to see good days?
Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from deceitful speech.
Turn away from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it."
- Psalms 34: 12-15
